Power Solution: RPS-300 Power Supply


CUSTOMER PAIN POINT:
An outstanding Fitness Equipment Provider was developing a Home-Fitness Exercise Equipment that needed to meet the stringent 1275/2008 ErP (Energy-related Products) requirements on standby and off mode electric power consumption. The Equipment required a power supply with standby power consumption below 0.5W to ensure energy efficiency, aligning with ErP standards. Additionally, during testing, the customer encountered an issue where the power supply would reset intermittently when powering a DC motor within the device, raising concerns about the consistent performance and reliability of the product.


 
POWER SOLUTION:
MEAN WELL responded by closely analyzing the customer's ErP compliance requirements and the specific challenges faced during their testing. The RPS-300-24C power supply, with a default standby power consumption of less than 0.5W via PS-ON control, was initially evaluated and modified to address the customer's issues. Upon further investigation, it was identified that the power supply reset intermittently due to the high peak current load during motor startup. MEAN WELL worked diligently to ensure the power supply could withstand this peak load. After modification, it has less than 0.5W default standby consumption automatically too meet ErP compliance. Moreover, RPS-300-24C was tested to handle a peak current load within certain period, which successfully drive the customer’s application.

The MEAN WELL engineering team collaborated closely with the other customers as well to resolve their power concerns, and eventually developed a new generation open frame supply--LOP series. It does not only meet ErP requirement and peak current loading requirements in fitness equipment, but also has miniature size and global certificates in multi-fields, including ITE, medical, household and industrial areas.

CONCLUSION:
MEAN WELL resolved a fitness equipment provider's power supply issues by modifying the RPS-300-24C to meet ErP standards and ensure stability during peak loads. This not only fixed the problems but also improved the device's reliability. The development of the LOP series highlights MEAN WELL's commitment to versatile, industry-compliant solutions, solidifying their role in the health and fitness industry.
